The perfect youtube video for a sunday morning! Skuli Sverrisson playing with saxophonist Oskar Guojonsson. This piece is called “Fragments” from their album The Box Tree.
For those unaware of him – Skuli Sverrisson is an amazing bassist and composer from Iceland. Without putting “labels” on his music, or improvised music from this region – I will say, to anyone interested – improvised music from the Nordic region of Europe has a very unique, rather melancholic sound which borrows heavily from folk traditions.
Very excited about seeing Chris Dave play at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival in May/June. Check out this medley of hip hop grooves starting with “Find A Way” by Tribe Called Quest. Such a deep pocket. This guy has changed the way I hear and feel “groove”. For anyone interested – check out his work on the Robert Glasper Experiment’s debut album “Black Radio”. Very much looking forward to seeing this guy up close at Bennett’s Lane.
